Job Summary & Responsibilities
  • Deliver care and create a therapeutic environment for patients and families ranging from basic to complex by utilizing the nursing process.
  • Carry out functions consistent with performance improvement and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate clinical excellence through proficient practice that enhances the practice environment.
  • Assess patients’ physical and psychosocial status through interview, examination, and review of clinical data.
  • Identify potential crisis situations and intervene before a crisis develops.
  • Reassess patient status at established time frames and as indicated by the patient’s condition.
  • Analyze relevant patient data to identify nursing diagnoses and care problems.
  • Communicate patient status and assessed needs to members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Develop an individualized plan of care, including developmental and cultural needs, in collaboration with the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team.
  • Review and update the plan of care as needed, acting as a resource to others in developing and implementing the plan.
  • Use the nursing process as a basis for developing, implementing, and evaluating nursing interventions.
  • Provide patient‑centered care with sensitivity and respect for the human experience.
  • Perform technical skills required by the specific clinical unit safely and competently.
  • Coordinate and implement medical diagnostic and therapeutic orders as directed.
  • Anticipate and manage complications of disease progression and invasive procedures.
  • Document plan of care, assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes in an electronic medical record thoroughly and accurately.
  • Report status, including response to care and changes in status, as appropriate.
  • Ensure a calm, supportive, and therapeutic environment for patients and families, advocating when appropriate.
  • Adhere to all safety, organizational, and ethical standards according to the ANA Code of Ethics.
  • Implement elements of core measures in conjunction with performance improvement.
  • Identify current trends that could impact patient outcomes.
  • Identify system resources effectively and allocate them appropriately at the point of care delivery.
  • Manage specific complex clinical procedures common to patients in the area of practice, encouraging colleagues to seek guidance.
  • Employ critical thinking skills to solve problems and achieve patient outcomes.
