Associate Instructor – Welding
Position held by Tennessee Board of Regents (T ) at TCAT‑McMinnville. Full‑time exempt teacher responsible for delivering the Welding curriculum, evaluating student progress, and maintaining program standards.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certificate or diploma in an instructional area or related field, with credentials in a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of welding experience within the last 5 years.
- Ability to teach: GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG), SMAW (STICK), oxyacetylene fusion, flux‑core welding, flame cutting, brazing, soldering.
- Familiarity with blueprint reading, welding symbols, metallurgy, fitting and fabrication.
- Commitment to utilizing instructional technology and ongoing development of instructional technologies.
- Commitment to maintaining program accreditation(s).
- Strong customer service skills; effective oral and written communication skills; ability to present information clearly.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, audio/visual equipment and software.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Valid Tennessee driver’s license.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
- Experience in higher education.
- Ability to establish and maintain relationships with local businesses, employers, industry, workforce development agencies, and secondary and post‑secondary institutions.
- Monitor and evaluate student progress, attendance, and grades.
- Complete and submit required reports in a timely manner.
- Apply a multi‑method approach (demonstrations, lectures, hands‑on activities, live work) to enhance student understanding and provide employment‑ready knowledge.
- Select teaching methods that best serve students’ needs, interests, and learning preferences.
- Develop objective standards for measuring learning and administer tests or other evaluations to determine effectiveness and ensure high comprehension.
- Teach all courses within the Welding curriculum.
- Maintain student records for grades and attendance and enter them into the Banner system.
- Build and maintain relationships with area employers to facilitate referral and employment of career and technical students.
- Cooperate with outside agencies, program advisory committees, conduct visits to business and industry; establish and maintain good public relations with the school’s general public.
- Work in cooperation with other departments and the community to enhance employment opportunities for students.
- Responsible for surveys, records and reports of program graduates.
- Communicate effectively in a professional, tactful and courteous manner with students, employees, faculty and the general public.
- Ensure all activities comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Perform assigned responsibilities, duties and tasks according to established practices, procedures, techniques and standards in a safe manner and with minimal supervision.
- Hold program advisory board meetings once a year and maintain meeting minutes.
- Participate in professional development and growth annually.
- Assist with student placement and follow‑up information, student recruitment and other duties as assigned.
- Background checks will be completed on all new hires (Sex Offender Registry, County Criminal & Federal Criminal checks).
- Physical demands: walking, climbing, bending, stooping; work performed in office, testing center and classroom environments; requires use of a computer.
- Physical activity: walking or standing; sitting for brief periods; bending, stooping; use of arms, hands, fingers.
- Salary commensurate with experience, education and training according to Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology salary guidelines.
