Job SummaryThe successful candidate will collaborate with a range of Modeling and Simulation engineering personnel to apply Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools to AEDC‑relevant test facility issues, assess concepts, analyze expected performance, and troubleshoot problems with ground test infrastructure systems used for ground testing of air and space vehicles.
Job Duties- Support software development for computational modeling and simulation (M&S) tools
- Develop and apply computational models and simulations, coupled with high‑performance computing, to solve complex physical problems arising in engineering analysis and design
- Ensure M&S tools meet the needs for predicting performance of complex hardware systems and troubleshoot issues when tools are not capturing systems accurately
- Analyze deficiencies in existing CFD codes; formulate, implement, and validate improvements
- Develop new computational approaches in fluid‑thermal chemistry, turbulence, numerical algorithms, and code processing
- Expand CFD capabilities into the hypersonic regime by implementing or applying algorithms that account for combustion and high‑speed chemical reactions required to simulate hypersonic vehicle flowfields and high‑temperature facilities
- Prepare, execute, interpret, and review aerodynamic computations using CFD codes for analysis of aerodynamic facilities
- Engage with colleagues to advance technology, facility improvements, diagnostics, and complex problem solutions
- Wear company‑issued PPE in accordance with policies
- Perform other related duties as required
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering with minimum 5 years of project and/or research experience in computational engineering methods and tools
- Proficiency in FORTRAN, C, C++, Python, or other relevant languages for computational software development
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret level security clearance and access to the AEDC local area network
- U.S. citizenship required for employment at AEDC
- Master’s Degree in a related field with 3 years of experience in computational development and analysis
- Strong foundation in engineering and science, advanced mathematics, algorithms, and computer languages
- Team experience developing/applying complex CFD models
- Familiarity with Linux operating systems
- Demonstrated knowledge of developing computational engineering methods and applying CFD tools to engineering problems
- Experience modeling compressible, real‑gas, or chemically‑reacting flows across subsonic, supersonic, and hypersonic regimes; detailed knowledge of thermodynamics, combustion, and multidisciplinary modeling
- Combination of code “development” and “applications” skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Commitment to an open, trust‑based, teamwork‑oriented work environment
- Current Department of Defense Secret Clearance
- Competitive salaries
- Continuing education assistance
- Multiple healthcare benefits packages
