Beyond New Horizons, LLC invites applications for the Early Career Test Operations Engineer – Hypervelocity Ballistic Ranges role. The position is located at Arnold Air Force Base, TN, and is on‑site only, supporting the United States Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment contract at Arnold Engineering Development Complex.
OverviewThe Test Operations Engineer will be part of an integrated team responsible for operating and maintaining ground test facilities in support of national defense missions. This role requires shift work and the ability to serve as the “quarterback” in a control room responsible for planning and execution of test plans.
Job SummaryOur Test Operations Engineers provide technical direction for safe and reliable operation of test equipment and integration of a customer’s test article to an AEDC test bed. They apply engineering principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, hydraulics, pneumatics, and materials, and produce engineering documentation such as risk assessments, test plans, and work instructions.
Job Duties- Operate test bed systems and develop test operational requirements.
- Direct test system checkouts and testing as required.
- Collaborate with multidiscipline engineers, physicists, and skilled craft technicians in the test control room.
- Respond quickly to alarms/alerts, troubleshoot malfunctions, and direct corrective maintenance.
- Coordinate with superintendents and work planners; provide technical leadership to the craft workforce.
- Maintain proper test/operations reporting, including Ops Center logs and test unit status logs.
- Perform facility characterization, calibrations, monitor performance, and maintain system capability maps and envelopes.
- Act as system engineer for equipment directly supporting the test bed facility and engage in small design and analysis tasks as needed.
- Work extra hours and support off‑shift testing as required.
- Communicate clearly using various methods of communication.
- Wear company‑issued PPE per policy.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university.
- Less than 5 years’ post‑degree engineering experience.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance and the AEDC local area network.
- U.S. Citizenship required for employment at AEDC.
- Practical application of mechanical engineering systems and CAE/CAD tools.
- Experience in electrical engineering, mechatronics, control systems, or related disciplines.
- Ability to work dynamically and flexibly in a mission‑focused environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience building relationships across engineering and craft workforce.
- Strong organizational skills to track and facilitate progress on projects.
