Test Operations Engineer – Hypervelocity Ballistic Ranges
Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) invites applications for a Test Operations Engineer in our Hypervelocity Ballistic Ranges, where we analyze flight characteristics of projectiles in re‑entry, hypersonic, and orbital flight environments and the impact results. The role is on‑site at the Arnold Engineering Development Complex, Arnold Air Force Base, TN, and focuses on operating and maintaining ground test facilities in support of U.S. Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment.
OverviewThis position is on‑site only, supporting the Test Operations and Sustainment contract. The selected candidate will be available to work any shift to support test needs as required. The Test Operations Engineer acts as the “quarterback” in a control room, planning and executing test plans, providing technical direction for the safe and reliable operation of test equipment, and integrating a customer’s test article with the AEDC test bed.
Job Duties- Operate test bed systems and develop test operational requirements.
- Ensure test article mounts are structurally sound to withstand expected tests.
- Direct test system checkouts and testing as required.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineers, physicists, and craft technicians in the test control room.
- Respond quickly to alarms and system malfunctions, troubleshooting and directing corrective maintenance.
- Coordinate with superintendents, supervisors, and planners; provide technical leadership for work orders and operational procedures.
- Maintain proper test and operations reporting (Ops Center logs, test resumes, status logs, etc.).
- Perform facility characterizations, calibrations, and monitor performance, maintaining system capability maps.
- Act as a system engineer for equipment supporting the test bed; engage in small design and analysis tasks when needed.
- Work extra hours or support off‑shift testing as required.
- Communicate clearly via various methods; wear company‑issued PPE per policy.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- BS degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited institution and a minimum of 5 years of post‑degree engineering experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance and access to the AEDC local area network.
- U.S. citizenship (required for employment at AEDC).
- Practical application of technical knowledge in mechanical engineering and use of CAE/CAD tools.
- Experience or knowledge in electrical engineering, mechatronics, control systems, or related disciplines.
- Flexibility to work in a dynamic environment and achieve mission objectives.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience building relationships across engineering and craft teams.
- Organizational skills to track and facilitate project progress.
- Proactive initiative and drive to results.

- Active Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance.
