Are you an experienced indirect tax professional looking to make a real impact in a dynamic retail environment? We're partnering with a leading UK grocer to appoint an Indirect Tax Manager to join its high-performing in-house tax team.
This is an excellent opportunity to broaden your experience across a diverse indirect tax landscape, working closely with stakeholders across the business while playing a key role in ensuring robust tax compliance, reporting and governance. You'll also have the chance to contribute to strategic projects and support continuous improvement initiatives across the tax function.
The OpportunityReporting to the Senior Indirect Tax Manager, you'll be a key member of the wider tax team, responsible for ensuring indirect tax obligations are met accurately and on time while supporting the organisation's wider commercial objectives.
Working within one of the UK's largest and most complex retail businesses, you'll gain exposure to a broad range of tax matters, senior stakeholders and business-critical projects, making this an ideal move for someone looking to further develop their in-house career.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare, review and submit accurate VAT returns
- Identify and support indirect tax claims and opportunities to optimise the organisation's tax position
- Manage HMRC enquiries, audits and information requests, ensuring timely and robust responses
- Support tax forecasting activities and associated cashflow forecasting processes
- Provide practical indirect tax advice to stakeholders across finance, operations and commercial teams
- Identify opportunities to strengthen compliance processes, controls and reporting frameworks
- Support wider tax and corporate development projects as required
- Coach and mentor junior team members, sharing knowledge and supporting their professional development
- Partner with colleagues across the business to identify tax risks and opportunities and ensure appropriate governance is maintained.
We're looking for a qualified tax professional who combines strong technical expertise with excellent stakeholder management skills.
You'll ideally bring:- Strong technical knowledge across complex VAT matters, including partial exemption, property and retail
- Experience of tax accounting, reporting and compliance processes
- Strong understanding of tax risk management, controls and governance
- The ability to analyse and interpret large volumes of data and determine appropriate tax treatment
- Experience managing HMRC enquiries, audits and technical correspondence
- Excellent communication skills with the confidence to engage stakeholders at all levels
- Strong analytical capability and attention to detail
- Advanced Excel skills and experience working with ERP systems such as SAP would be an advantage.
- Competitive salary of up to £65,000
- 28 days' annual leave plus bank holidays
