VAT Director

Your new company A leading, nationally recognised professional services firm is seeking an experienced VAT Director to join its growing Indirect Tax team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative and ambitious tax practice that advises a diverse portfolio of owner-managed businesses, corporate groups, property developers, not-for-profit organisations and international clients. Drawing on responsibilities commonly seen in senior VAT leadership roles across the market, the position offers a blend of technical advisory work, team leadership and business development. Your new role As VAT Director, you will play a key leadership role within the VAT practice, taking responsibility for a varied portfolio of clients and delivering high-quality advisory and compliance services. Your responsibilities will include:
Leading complex VAT advisory projects across a range of sectors, including property, construction, governance, risk and compliance. Acting as a trusted adviser to clients, providing clear, pragmatic and commercially focused VAT advice. Managing a portfolio of clients and ensuring the timely delivery of all VAT-related assignments. Working closely with colleagues across tax, audit, corporate finance and other service lines to deliver joined-up solutions.

Leading client meetings, contributing to technical discussions and communicating complex VAT matters in a straightforward manner. Identifying VAT risks, opportunities and efficiencies through the analysis of financial and operational data. Delegating and reviewing work across the team, ensuring excellent client service and technical accuracy. Developing and mentoring team members, supporting their technical and professional growth. Producing technical updates, articles and client communications on VAT developments.

Building and maintaining strong client relationships while identifying opportunities for additional work. Supporting business development activities through networking, market engagement and proposal preparation. What you'll need to succeed To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
Significant VAT advisory experience gained within a professional services, consultancy or HMRC environment. Experience operating at Associate Director, Director or Senior Manager level with responsibility for managing a client portfolio. Strong technical VAT knowledge across a range of sectors. A proven ability to lead projects, manage multiple priorities and deliver work to demanding deadlines. Strong people management and leadership skills, with experience coaching and developing teams.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to lead client discussions and present technical advice clearly. Commercial awareness and a track record of contributing to business development and revenue growth. A professional tax or accountancy qualification such as CTA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent would be advantageous.
