An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Highway Communications Officer to join a busy client in the Manchester area on an initial 6 month contract basis.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and communicate information relating to road closures, roadworks, traffic management measures and highway improvement projects.
  • Prepare, draft and distribute stakeholder communications including letters, emails, notices, briefings and project updates.
  • Act as a key point of contact for residents, businesses, councillors, contractors, utility companies, emergency services and other stakeholders.
  • Respond to enquiries and correspondence in a professional, timely and customer-focused manner.
  • Manage and monitor shared inboxes, ensuring enquiries are logged, tracked and responded to within agreed timescales.
  • Liaise with internal departments, highways engineers, project managers and external partners to gather and share information.
  • Support the planning and delivery of stakeholder engagement and public consultation activities.
  • Maintain accurate records, databases, stakeholder contact lists and communication logs.
  • Coordinate stakeholder notifications and communications in line with project programmes and deadlines.
  • Provide administrative support to the Highways team, including document management, filing, meeting coordination and report preparation.
  • Assist in the preparation of briefing notes, reports, presentations and management information.
  • Support the communication of road closure, diversion and traffic management information to minimise disruption and manage public expectations.
  • Monitor project progress and provide stakeholders with updates regarding changes, delays and programme information.
  • Work collaboratively with contractors and delivery partners to ensure communications are accurate and consistent.
  • Support website updates, newsletters, customer communications and other engagement materials where required.
  • Ensure all communications comply with council policies, procedures, GDPR and relevant legislation.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and promote a positive image of the Highways Service.
  • Identify opportunities to improve communication processes and stakeholder engagement activities.
