Spire Murrayfield Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a Receptionist to join our team on a part-time, permanent basis.
As one of the first people our patients and visitors meet, you will play an important role in creating a welcoming, professional and reassuring environment. You will provide an efficient reception and administrative service while delivering an excellent experience for patients, consultants, visitors and hospital colleagues.
Working hours
You will work 15 hours per week as part of a rota covering the following shifts:
- Monday to Friday: 7:00am to 3:00pm or 1:00pm to 9:00pm
- Saturday: 7:00am to 3:00pm
Flexibility to work across these shifts will be required.

Your role
As a Receptionist, you will provide an exceptional level of customer service to patients, consultants, visitors and hospital colleagues. You will aim to meet and exceed expectations by providing a warm, professional and caring welcome.
You will also provide an efficient administrative service, working in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures. This role requires professionalism, excellent communication skills and complete confidentiality at all times.
Key responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Welcoming, registering and directing patients, consultants, visitors and hospital colleagues in a warm, professional and caring manner
- Providing patients and visitors with clear and accurate information
- Admitting patients to their rooms in accordance with hospital procedures
- Processing inpatient and outpatient charges accurately
- Collecting and processing payment details securely, both over the telephone and in person
- Supporting inpatient bookings by entering inpatient and day-case information onto the hospital’s computer systems
- Preparing and maintaining admission lists, including allocating admissions and liaising with nursing colleagues as required
- Completing patient admissions and discharges on the hospital’s computer systems, ensuring that all information is accurate and up to date
- Operating the hospital switchboard professionally and efficiently
What we are looking for
No formal qualifications are required, but you must be able to communicate clearly and professionally with patients, visitors and colleagues. You will be expected to maintain a professional appearance appropriate to a healthcare environment.

- Previous experience of working in reception or a similar customer-facing environment
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- A warm, professional and confident approach
- A strong focus on delivering and exceeding customer expectations
- The ability to remain calm and professional when handling sensitive or challenging situations
- A confident and professional telephone manner
- The ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people
- Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail
- The ability to build and maintain effective working relationships, both internally and externally
- Basic computer skills and experience of entering information accurately
