About the Role

The main purpose of this role is to provide support to households placed in temporary or emergency accommodation, maximise income, eradicate debt owed to HOST, protect vulnerable clients, ensure licence agreements and rent accounts are in place, and submit the necessary Housing Benefit claims.

The Temporary Accommodation Officer works alongside the Temporary Accommodation Move on Officer to develop move‑on pathways that reduce the time spent in temporary accommodation.

Responsibilities
  • Provide support to households in temporary or emergency accommodation.
  • Maximise income and eradicate debt owed to HOST for temporary or emergency accommodation.
  • Protect vulnerable clients and ensure all households have the necessary licence agreements and rent accounts.
  • Submit all required Housing Benefit claims.
  • Collaborate with the Temporary Accommodation Move on Officer to secure move‑on pathways for households.
  • Maintain accurate records, produce reports, and understand financial control principles and procedures.
  • Operate IT software packages, databases and spreadsheets with accuracy.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and establish excellent working relationships with colleagues.
  • Work independently under pressure, plan and prioritise workload, meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Respond independently to unexpected problems and situations and draft standard and non‑standard documentation using corporate templates.
Qualifications
  • Experience delivering homelessness prevention, resettlement, and housing‑related support services.
  • Proven experience working within a multi‑functional team and with partners to deliver services to a diverse community.
  • Experience with in a housing environment dealing with tenant issues and a customer‑focused organisation.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records, produce reports, and understand financial control principles and procedures.
  • Experience dealing with vulnerable customers and with challenging or disagreeable behaviour.
  • Drive, determination and excellent relationship skills.
  • Proficiency in IT software packages, databases and spreadsheets, with accurate calculation ability.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure, plan, prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to draft documentation and respond independently to unexpected problems and situations.
