Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager

💰 Up to £40 per hour (depending on experience)
About the Role
An established and growing construction consultancy is seeking a commercially driven Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager to join its team on a 3-month contract basis in Manchester.
This is a key commercial role responsible for managing the financial and contractual aspects of allocated construction projects, ensuring full end-to-end service delivery and strong commercial governance throughout the project lifecycle.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting project delivery teams by defining, managing, and controlling all commercial requirements from feasibility through to final account.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare feasibility studies and procurement reports
Apply value management techniques at project inception
Lead estimating and cost planning activities, including ownership and presentation of cost plans
Support and participate in procurement processes (pre-qualification, tendering, analysis, selection, contract preparation)
Produce tender documentation
Manage post-contract cost variances and change control processes
Oversee cost checking, valuations, and financial control procedures
Produce and present monthly cost reports
Lead value engineering and life cycle costing exercises
Negotiate and agree final accounts
Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to required quality standards
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and key stakeholders
Contribute to continuous improvement and service excellence
About You
We are looking for a commercially experienced professional with:
Proven experience in a construction project environment
Strong knowledge of cost management and procurement processes
Excellent financial and contractual awareness
The ability to work collaboratively within a delivery team
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
A proactive approach to continuous professional development
