Our Entry into Construction Apprenticeship provides a solid foundation to progress your career into various construction specialisms.
ResponsibilitiesAs a Construction Operative you will:
- Work alongside all on-site construction trades, including bricklayers and plant operatives.
- Prepare construction sites, setting out and preparing sub-surface for structural work.
- Install drainage systems, perform concreting, construct roads and pathways, and carry out finished hard landscaping.
- Assist in the completion activities of projects across our rail, tunnelling, plant operations, engineering, utilities, and buildings sectors.
To be considered you should have:
- National Mathematics & English proficiency.
- Motivation to learn, a positive mindset and a can-do attitude.
- Eligibility to work in the UK with a valid work permit if applicable; sponsorship is not provided.
- Full UK driving licence is desirable and may be required for certain site locations.
- Residence in Scotland for the last 3 years by the start of the apprenticeship.
This 24-month apprenticeship follows the General Construction Apprenticeship SCQF level
5. Training includes practical principles in:
- Drainage
- Concrete
- Levelling and setting out
- Block paving
- Kerbing
- Brickwork
- Excavation support
- Working at height
- Confined space operations
- Small tools operation
- Movement of plant
- Manual handling
You will attend block-release study sessions at CITB's National Construction College every 6-8 weeks and gain practical experience on live construction projects. A CSCS card and additional training will be provided.
