Senior Quantity Surveyor

Overview

Our construction team is undergoing a significant transformation with a focus on in sourcing and in‑house development across our project portfolio. In the RM Engineering family, we design, develop and deploy future‑ready, innovative solutions across our property, automation and maintenance teams.

• Lead commercial planning, governance and reporting across assigned projects, ensuring strong cost control from concept to completion.
• Prepare cost plans, estimates, tender documentation, bills of quantities and commercial evaluations for a wide range of construction and engineering schemes.
• Manage valuations, contractor applications, forecasting, cashflow and final accounts, ensuring accuracy and financial compliance.
• Drive value engineering and cost‑saving initiatives, identify opportunities to optimise scope, reduce lifecycle cost and support in sourcing where appropriate.
• Provide clear commercial reporting covering cost to complete, forecast outturns, risks, opportunities and supply chain performance.
• Ensure compliance with statutory and organisational governance, including procurement policies, audit requirements and relevant construction legislation.
• Manage commercial and contractual risks through robust assessments and maintaining project risk registers.
• Build effective relationships with internal teams, contractors and suppliers, support negotiations and drive performance improvements.

• Strong commercial, financial and analytical skills, with experience managing multiple project budgets and delivering accurate cost plans, estimates and valuations.
• Solid knowledge of construction contracts (particularly JCT), commercial procedures, change control and dispute resolution.
• Understanding of construction methods, building services, procurement routes and market pricing, with strong negotiation capability.
• Experience across construction, engineering or client‑side environments, ideally spanning building fabric, M&E or industrial/logistics settings.
• Track record of managing commercial aspects of multiple projects of varied scale and complexity.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and relationship building skills.
• Proactive, solutions‑driven approach with strong attention to detail, governance discipline and the ability to influence at all levels.
• Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external supply chain partners.

• Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline.
• Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) or working towards MRICS professional accreditation.
• CSCS card or equivalent H&S accreditation.
• IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH General Certificate.

• National role with flexible base location; travel and site visits required.
