A 3-month, full time paid development opportunity for new or emerging writers.

Workplace:
Based either Coronation Street (Manchester) or Emmerdale (Leeds). This is a hybrid role. We’re happy to discuss flexible working and access needs.

The team

Our Continuing Drama teams create the stories behind two of the UK’s most iconic series:
Coronation Street and Emmerdale. Step into the world of Continuing Drama for an exciting 3 months contract that will immerse you in the drama-filled lives of our Weatherfield residents and beloved villagers.

These shows combine compelling character journeys, community storytelling and socially relevant themes that resonate with audiences across the UK.

The role

  • Observe and contribute to story conferences.
  • Support the development of multi-episode storylines.
  • Gain insight into the editorial and production process behind long-running drama.
  • Share ideas and perspectives that reflect contemporary Britain.

You will also develop your understanding of character-led storytelling, episodic structure and collaborative writing.

Successful candidates may be considered for future paid writing opportunities on Coronation Street or Emmerdale.

This initiative particularly welcomes applications from People of Colour, Deaf, Disabled and Neurodivergent people and those from working‑class backgrounds.

  • The ability to work to deadlines and respond to editorial feedback.
  • An interest in creating stories that reflect the experiences and communities of modern Britain.
  • Able to demonstrate a diverse voice and alternative view of modern Britain for a range of characters in continuing drama.
Other things we’re looking for (key criteria)
