Overview

Please note, this opportunity is only available to Manchester Met 2025 graduates who will be based in the UK for the duration of this role. You must have graduated from an undergraduate course from Manchester Met in June 2025 to apply. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept applications from current or previous postgraduate students. The School of English - recently expanded to incorporate programmes in Languages, Information and Communications, and Performance, as well as Literature, Film and Media, and Creative Writing - is seeking a proactive and organised Communications and Events Coordinator to support communications, outreach, and event delivery.

This role is ideal for a recent School of English graduate with strong communication skills and a passion for engaging audiences through events and storytelling. Background:
The main purpose of this role is to support the School of English Employability team in developing, promoting and documenting the School's activities, enhancing its reputation, and supporting a vibrant programme of academic, student-facing, and public events.

  • Develop and produce engaging content for digital and print channels, including newsletters, reviews and promotional materials.
  • Draft communications to promote workshops, talks and events.
  • Assist in the planning, organisation, and delivery of a range of events (e.g. professional talks, conferences, alumni events, student workshops).
  • Coordinate event logistics including booking spaces, liaising with speakers, managing registrations, and preparing materials.
  • Provide on-the-day event support, including setup, attendee coordination, and troubleshooting.
  • Support hybrid and online event delivery using digital platforms.
  • Help develop initiatives that enhance the student experience and foster community within the School.
  • Capture and share event highlights through blogs and social media content.
  • Collect feedback and evaluate event success.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to improve future activity.
  • Gain hands-on experience in communications and event management within higher education.
  • Develop skills in project coordination, stakeholder engagement, and digital promotion.
  • Build a professional portfolio across communications and events.
  • Work in a creative, intellectually stimulating environment.

Eligibility and Background

Person Specification:

This role is only open to those who graduated from a Manchester Met undergraduate course in June 2025 and are not currently studying, nor have previously studied, on a postgraduate course. The ideal candidate will have the following:

Essential
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Experience of supporting or coordinating events (academic, cultural, or student-focused).
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital communication tools.
  • High attention to detail and a professional approach.
Desirable
  • Basic design skills (e.g. Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Experience supporting online or hybrid events.
  • Knowledge of accessibility and inclusive communications.
