Clinical Teaching Fellow/Specialty Dentist in Restorative Dentistry
Closing date: 01 July 2026
We wish to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced clinician to join the Division of Dentistry to provide teaching on the undergraduate BDS programme.
- Contribute to teaching and learning in Restorative Dentistry primarily focused on the UG BDS and BSc DH&T programmes.
- Clinical supervision of BDS and BSc DH&T students on Restorative clinics.
- Contribute to the examination, assessment and review of students' performance and progression, both internally and externally.
- Promote excellence in learning and teaching and directly teach and mentor undergraduate students for the Division including supervision of undergraduate students.
- Dental degree (BDS or equivalent)
- Registered with the GDC (or be eligible for temporary registration)
- Evidence of clinical experience in Restorative Dentistry - at a level appropriate for post
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills evidenced by previous collaborative work in either teaching and/or research
- Teaching qualification (AFHEA, FHEA, SFHEA, PG Cert in T&L)
- Higher degree (MSc, PhD or equivalent) in a relevant subject
- Membership of national or international research organisations
- Publication record in appropriate peer reviewed journals commensurate with post being sought
- Experience of supervising undergraduate students on clinic
- Demonstration of commitment to an academic career in teaching
- Ability to critically appraise evidence relating to oral surgery
- Experience in initiating and completing teaching initiatives relating to oral surgery, dentistry and patient care
- Evidence of contribution to inform guideline development/policy decisions
- Current or previous involvement in a leadership position in UG Teaching (BDS/BSc Oral Hygiene and Therapy)
- A recognised profile of personal achievement in teaching, scholarship and professional engagement
- Teaching experience
- Good level of knowledge and understanding of the dental/clinical environment, nationally and internationally
- Ability to work effectively across complex organisational structures
- Presentation of work at international forums
- High level communication and interpersonal skills
- Evidence of effective working relationships with clinicians, health scientists, commissioners, and other stakeholders at a high level to bring about change
- Strong operational management and delivery focus
- A strong commitment to promoting and contributing to excellence in teaching
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
Salary: £63,696 to £102,689 a year per annum / pro rata
