Overview
A 2‑year clinical fellowship alternates between The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, Manchester, UK, and The Peter Mac Callum Cancer Centre, Melbourne, Australia. Fellows will see new referrals, manage trial patients, and take part in a full portfolio of Phase I and early drug development studies. The fellowship includes a fully funded postgraduate MD degree (University of Manchester / Peter Mac Cullum).
Responsibilities- Consultant oversight of new referrals, follow‑ups and patient management throughout the trial experience.
- Sub‑investigator participation in phase I trials of small‑molecule inhibitors, next‑generation chemotherapy, combination/multi‑modality trials, molecular characterisation and radiotherapy studies.
- Attend safety review committee meetings and monthly molecular tumour board meetings to discuss trial patients.
- Interface with external stakeholders such as CROs and pharmaceutical sponsors.
- Administer duties associated with patient care and contribute to the development and planning of new studies.
- Present research work, write papers and reviews, and undergo annual appraisal.
- Undergraduate: contribute to medical student teaching on oncology topics.
- Postgraduate: lecture on relevant topics, support junior doctors and training of nursing & multidisciplinary staff.
- Participate in clinical governance, maintain up‑to‑date protocols and guidelines, and perform clinical audit under consultant supervision.
- Lead audit projects as a member of The Christie Medical Staff Committee.
- Specialist oncology training pathway, preferably towards the end or completed.
- Experience or interest in experimental medicine and Phase I trials, including first‑in‑human trials, clinical pharmacology trials and translational research.
- Commitment to continuing professional development in line with GMC and Royal College of Physicians recommendations.
- Salary on The Christie and Peter Mac scales in line with clinical experience.
- Fully funded postgraduate MD degree (co‑supervised by The Christie & Peter Mac).
- Coursework and study leave arrangements in conjunction with the training programme.
Fellowship commencement:
Manchester between Summer 2026 and February 2027, with flexibility. Interviews may occur outside normal UK working hours to allow a joint panel.
