This is an exciting opportunity to work in a locum post split across Germ Cell and Acute Oncology medical oncology services. The role is for 10 PAs with an equal split across each area. The successful applicant will work at The Christie NHS FT main site and join two busy medical teams delivering high quality patient care for the region.

The postholder will work across both disease groups:
Germ Cell – delivering two clinics per week and playing an active role in regional MDT;
Acute Oncology – leading inpatient reviews and decision-making on the wards. There is a 1:20 full-week on‑call rota. The on‑call consultant provides a post‑take ward round each morning to review all newly admitted patients.

We are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 15% of patients are referred to us from other parts of the country. We provide radiotherapy through one of the largest radiotherapy departments in the world;

chemotherapy on site and through 14 other hospitals; highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer; and a wide range of support and diagnostic services. We are also an international leader in research, with world‑first breakthroughs for over 100 years. We run one of the largest early clinical trial units in Europe with over 300 trials every year. Cancer research in Manchester, most of which is undertaken on the Christie site, has been officially ranked the best in the UK.

• Develop a significant interest in Germ Cell and Acute Oncology, delivering systemic therapy and undertaking clinic duties and inpatient reviews at the Withington site.

• Actively involve in delivering all aspects of systemic therapy.

• Participate in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as required by the GMC and royal colleges, with time and financial support provided by the Trust.

• Engage in job planning, including initial discussion within first six months, annual review, and alignment with Trust’s annual job planning cycle.

• Ensure essential/mandatory training modules are maintained at all times using allocated core SPA time.

• Participate in the 1:20 on‑call rota, providing post‑take ward rounds upon admission and review of escalated patients, covering the entire week on a rotating basis.

• Access office accommodation with computer, intranet, internet and admin/secretarial support.

• Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) specialist register via one of the following:
  Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (the proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration
• Evidence of productive ethical research relevant to oncology
• Recent publications in peer‑reviewed journals

• Appropriate experience across all disease groups in Medical Oncology as well as clinical trials experience (including Good Clinical Practice accreditation)
• Wide experience of Oncology, including Breast Cancer
• Experience in teaching undergraduates
• Experience of clinical audit
• Evidence of contribution to teaching
