Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to work in a locum post split across Germ Cell and Acute Oncology medical oncology services. The role is for 10PAs with an equal split across each area. The successful applicant will work at The Christie NHS FT main site. The successful applicant will join two busy medical teams delivering high quality patient care for the region.
Mainduties of the job
The postholder will work across both disease groups as follows:
- Germ Cell – delivering two clinics per week and playing an active role in regional MDT.
- Acute Oncology – leading on inpatient reviews and decision‑making on the wards.
There is a 1:20 full‑week on‑call rota. The on‑call consultant provides a post‑take ward‑round each morning to review all newly admitted patients.

The appointee will be expected to develop a significant interest in Germ Cell and Acute Oncology, deliver systemic therapy and undertake clinic duties and inpatient reviews at the Withington site. The post holder will be actively involved in delivering all aspects of systemic therapy.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)The Trust supports the requirements for CPD as laid down by the GMC and royal colleges and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.
Job PlanningThe job plan outlines the requirements of the post and may be altered by joint agreement with the Divisional Clinical Director and Service Manager and in response to service needs. Job plans are prospectively agreed subject to an annual individual job plan review (May–September). It is expected that the initial Job Plan discussion will take place within the first six months of employment at the Trust and then be aligned to the Trust’s annual Job Planning review cycle.

To ensure you maintain safe practice and understand Trust requirements, you must ensure your essential/mandatory training modules are maintained at all times using allocated core SPA time to complete them.

- Supervision role (minimum 0.25 must be allocated) – 0.25

On call CommitmentsThis role does require participation in the on‑call rota. Consultants in the department share in an on‑call rota that involves a commitment to a full week in every twenty weeks. This covers the Specialist Registrar who is second on‑call. The on‑call consultant provides a post‑take ward round each morning to review all newly admitted patients, and any sick patients escalated by the team.
