Job Summary
We are seeking a Locum Consultant Medical Oncologist for a 6‑month fixed term contract. The role will involve 10 program activities per week providing oncology care within the Lung Cancer Disease Group and Acute Oncology offering, covering a 3‑week rotating cover at consultant level for the Medical Oncology Lung outpatient service at The Christie and Wythenshawe Hospital, and a 1‑week‑in‑3 Acute Oncology inpatient service at The Christie.
MainDuties
- Provide consultant level care for lung cancer patients at The Christie Withington and Wythenshawe Hospital sites, including outpatient clinics, day case units, and inpatient wards.
- Participate in acute oncology consultant post for non‑elective admissions related to underlying malignant diagnosis or its treatment.
- Manage chemotherapy services across Oak Road Treatment Centre, Christie @ Home, Outreach, and Cecilia Centre (Wythenshawe).
- Attend multidisciplinary team meetings and oversee patient management, including standard therapy and phase II/III trials.
- Lead clinical governance activities: maintain protocols, guidelines, audit, and contribute to research projects.
- Support continuous professional development and teaching duties for undergraduate and postgraduate medical students.
- Conduct clinical audit as a member of The Christie Medical Staff Committee.

- MRCP or equivalent qualification
- GMC registration with a license to practice
- Entry on GMC specialist register via CCT (within 6 months of interview) or CESR
- Evidence of productive ethical research relevant to oncology
- Experience of independently managing oncology patients
- Experience of teaching undergraduates
- Experience of clinical audit
- Higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent)
- Recent publications in peer‑reviewed journals
- Experience in teaching postgraduates
- Experience of leadership in a service area
- Evidence of clinical leadership skills
- Proven ability to lead a team
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Flexibility, commitment and teamwork with colleagues
- Ability to work under pressure and self‑motivation, with ability to motivate team
