This is an exciting opportunity to manage inpatients with cancer. The role involves the acute and day-to-day management of patients with cancer who are admitted to The Christie either due to acute illness, acute complications of their cancer or its treatment.
There is exposure to cutting‑edge oncological therapies that are being delivered to patients. There is also the opportunity to work closely with specialist oncologists in both the inpatient and outpatient management of patients with cancer. There is access to an elective chemotherapy unit, a supportive oncology multidisciplinary team (including palliative care, specialist therapy, specialist nutrition and associated oncological specialities), an interventional procedures unit, acute assessment unit and specialist treatment services.
This job will lead to the development of an individual’s ability to manage patients with cancer, including oncological emergencies. We are also a very quality‑improvement, education and research active site and a prospective employee will have the opportunity to partake in these activities.
Key Responsibilities- Acute and day-to-day management of patients with cancer who are admitted to hospital (both elective and emergency).
- Support specialist oncology teams to deliver high-quality care to patients with cancer and to facilitate safe discharge from hospital.
- Deliver empathic and excellent palliative care to patients in whom that is a key management priority.
- Support the acute assessment unit.
- Partake in educational activities for self-development on site.
- Requirements for on call will be discussed at interview.
