Job Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a locum post split across Germ Cell and Acute Oncology medical oncology services. The role is for 10 PAs with an equal split across each area. The successful applicant will work at The Christie NHS FT main site.

The successful applicant will join two busy medical teams delivering high quality patient care for the region. The postholder will work across both disease groups as follows:

  • Germ Cell – delivering two clinics per week and playing an active role in regional MDT.
  • Acute Oncology – leading on inpatient reviews and decision‑making on the wards.

There is a 1:20 full‑week on‑call rota. The on‑call consultant provides a post‑take ward round each morning to review all newly admitted patients. The appointee will be expected to develop a significant interest in Germ Cell and Acute Oncology delivering systemic therapy and undertaking clinic duties and inpatient reviews at the Withington site. The post holder will be actively involved in delivering all aspects of systemic therapy.

Clinical

Responsibilities
  • Delivering Germ Cell clinics (2 per week) and supporting regional MDT.
  • Leading Acute Oncology inpatient reviews and making key clinical decisions on the wards.
  • Participating in the 1:20 on‑call rota, providing post‑take ward rounds and supporting escalation of sick patients.
  • Delivering systemic therapy and participating in all aspects of oncology treatment.
Training & Development

The Trust supports the requirements for CPD as laid down by the GMC and royal colleges and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.

Job Planning

The job plan outlines the requirements of the post and may be altered by joint agreement with the Divisional Clinical Director and Service Manager and in response to service needs. Job plans are prospectively agreed subject to an annual individual job plan review (May – September). It is expected that the initial job plan discussion will take place within the first six months of employment at the Trust and then be aligned to the Trust’s annual job planning review cycle.

The annual review will examine all aspects of the job plan (including any educational and supervision components) and will also include an assessment of professional development with defined goals for the future.
