The post will be based at Salford Royal Hospital of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA). This post is available on a 6 Programmed Activities (PAs) PAs. The post offers excellent opportunities for you to develop as a Rheumatology Consultant and contribute to service development and shape the future of the Trust's Rheumatology Service. The incoming post-holder will be encouraged to develop a special interest.
The service covers a population of around 220,000 people, with over 1 million in-patient and day case admissions, outpatient appointments and community contacts for patients per year. The successful candidate will join the Rheumatology Directorate at the Trust, staffed by ten Rheumatology consultants, five Rheumatology specialist nurses, a senior clinical fellow, a consultant physiotherapist, an advanced practice AHP, as well as two rotational junior medical staff on the NW Rheumatology rotation and one general medical trainee.
The directorate has five dedicated inpatient beds on a ward shared with dermatology, and good access to day-patient beds. The Rheumatology department actively encourages research, with existing research activity in systemic sclerosis, digital health, metabolic bone disease, musculoskeletal pain, myositis, axial spondyloarthritis and pharmacoepidemiology. The department is a regional centre for connective tissue disease.
The Post holder will undertake Rheumatology clinics in an outpatient setting, consisting of Myositis clinics, General Rheumatology and Metabolic Bone clinics.
Any additional, or substitution, out-patient clinics will reflect the interest of the appointee and needs of the department. The post holder will also undertake weekly ward round and review new admissions or unstable patients on an ad hoc basis. The post holder will provide clinical advice and support for ward referrals.

Person Specification Qualifications- MB.CHB or equivalent
- Specialist registration with the General Medical Council and licensed to practice
- Completion of higher training (CCT or within 6 months of obtaining CCT in Rheumatology at time of interview)
- Completion of basic training Medicine
- Dual accreditation (for those interested in supporting general medicine)
- Teaching of Medical students Teaching of Junior medical staff
- Experience of Audits
- Able to cope under pressure within conflicting demands Flexible and adaptable to change
