Job Summary
Applications are invited for the post of Senior Locally Employed Doctor (Higher) in Trauma to commence from August 2026 on a six month fixed‑term.
This post is based at the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), a major teaching hospital serving the population of Manchester. It offers a number of tertiary and regional services.
Non‑GMC registered candidates at the point of application will be considered under the Trust’s International Fellowship Scheme (note a £750 admin charge). More information can be found on our website.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will be part of a dynamic team of trauma and orthopaedic surgeons and plastic surgeons dealing with complex trauma cases at the designated Major Trauma Centre. We seek an enthusiastic fellow who wishes to further their interest in complex trauma.
The successful candidate should have completed CCST (or within 6 months) along with full GMC registration. Full registration and a licence to practice in the UK is required.
The candidate will work in a multi‑disciplinary team alongside medical staff, nurse practitioners, and allied health professionals.

Person SpecificationEssential Qualifications & Training
- Medical degree
- Minimum of 36 months full‑time (or equivalent part‑time) experience at middle‑grade level
- FRCS (Trauma & Orthopaedics)
- Full GMC registration (or eligible for full registration) and licence to practice
- Experience of audit
- Research and publications
Desirable
- Higher degree
- CCT or equivalent in trauma & orthopaedics (within 6 months)
- Distinctions or prizes during undergraduate training
- Successful research grant application
