Senior Clinical Fellow
- Urological Oncology (Penile and Testis)
Full‑time (10 PA) senior trainee post at one of Europe's largest specialist cancer centres and a UK centre of excellence for prostate cancer research. Starting August 2026 (no on‑call), the post combines high‑volume operating, specialist outpatient clinics, diagnostic sessions and active participation in specialist MDTs. The successful candidate will contribute to, and increasingly help lead, a tertiary referral service focused on prostate cancer and open/robotic pelvic exenteration and retroperitoneal surgery, alongside wider complex surgical oncology as required.
Mainduties of the job
- Provide key clinical support to the prostate cancer service and complex retroperitoneal/pelvic cancer teams, performing high‑quality Level II and Level III urological cancer surgery.
- Work alongside Consultant Urological Surgeons in theatre, specialist outpatient clinics, diagnostic sessions and MDT pathways.
- Collaborate with junior doctors and senior medical colleagues to ensure safe, coordinated tertiary care.
- Contribute to service administration, teaching, documentation, communication and patient‑centred decision making.
- Engage fully in education and training activities as a learner and teacher, supporting development of colleagues.
- Lead and participate in clinical and translational research in prostate, testis and pelvic/retroperitoneal malignancy, aiming for national/international presentation and publication.
- Contribute to audit and quality improvement, helping evaluate outcomes and refine pathways.
Working within the Urology team you will join a high‑performing multidisciplinary team delivering specialist care in prostate, pelvic and retroperitoneal malignancy. The culture is collegiate and hands‑on, with consultants operating and teaching alongside trainees, rigorous MDT decision‑making and supportive supervision. Research and improvement are integral to the week, with opportunities to develop audits, quality improvement projects and translational research. Teaching is embedded, with opportunities to learn and to contribute across the team.
Qualifications- MBBS (or equivalent)
- MRCS (or equivalent)
- GMC registration
- PhD (preferred)
- Minimum 8 years full‑time postgraduate training, including at least 4 years in a specialty training programme.
- Core Urology skills with evidence of commitment to Urological Oncology.
- Experience in high‑volume urological cancer surgery (Level II/III).
- Teaching and educational experience, including supervision of junior doctors.
- Strong research activity with publications in high‑impact journals and experience in audit and quality improvement.
- Excellent communication, teamwork and willingness to adapt to a national urological network.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Leadership and responsibility in managing surgical teams and multidisciplinary decision‑making.
- Active interest in research and audit, with evidence of completed audit and publication.
- Commitment to research alongside a clear career focus in complex Urological surgery.
- Flexibility to meet the demands of team working across a urological network.
