Consultant Histopathologist (Head and Neck)

Adult Histopathology department, Oxford Road campus (may work across other sites).

• Report full range of head and neck pathology including composite resections for head and neck cancer, dental and odontogenic pathology, thyroid and head and neck skin pathology.
• Provide proficiency in molecular and genomic diagnostics related to the specialty.
• Offer specialist review service of external cases for patients referred to the service for treatment and/or MDT discussion.
• Attend, review and present cases at the MDTs.
• Contribute to the cut‑up rota (including dissection of complex cancer resections).
• Report frozen sections and provide intra‑operative consultation service.
• Work collaboratively as part of a subspecialist team, focusing on high quality, peer review and patient safety.
• Be engaged in audit and service improvement projects and participate in the corresponding Pathology EQA.
• Take an active role in teaching and training of resident doctors.

• MB ChB, BDS or equivalent.
• Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the GMC or GDC (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview).
• Applicants who are UK trained must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. Applicants who are non‑UK trained will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
• FRCPath or equivalent.
• MD, PhD or other higher degree.

• Experience of audit in cellular pathology.
• Teaching of junior medical staff.
• Trained Clinical Supervisor.
• Teaching of medical students.
• Experience of supervision of ST1 level training including workplace-based assessment and MSF.
• Trained Educational Supervisor.

• Publications in recognised pathological and clinical journals.
• Specialist interest in areas of cellular pathology complementary to other consultants in the department.
• Research projects relating to the specialist area.

• Organisational skills.
• Communication skills.
• Leadership skills.
• Involvement in service development and / or quality improvement processes.

£113,565 to £150,569 a year per annum / pro rata.
