This post is for 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week to work within the Medical Oncology Colorectal Disease Group mainly based at The Christie site at Withington with 2 sessions out at peripheral sites at Royal Bolton and Stepping Hill Hospitals., The medical oncologist appointed will work with the colorectal team to provide a comprehensive clinical service for colorectal patients. This includes patients in the outpatient, inpatient & ambulatory settings, delivering Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) & providing Medical Oncology input to the Colorectal MDT & clinics at Royal Bolton Hospital & Stepping Hill Hospital Main

Duties include:

o Management of colorectal patients receiving standard & clinical trials including treatment decisions and ongoing care o Participating in all relevant aspects of clinical governance, including maintaining up to date protocols, guidelines and clinical audit, under the supervision of the other consultants in the unit o Contribute to current research projects and establish new opportunities to expand & develop research within the team o Revision & development of evidence-based protocols for patients & undertaking the administrative duties associated with the care of their patients o Maintaining a level of continuing professional development consistent the recommendations of the Royal College & Physicians o Contributing to undergraduate teaching of medical students o Actively contributing to the training of resident doctors & other multi-disciplinary team members in both in-patient & outpatient departments o Undertake clinical audit as a member of The Christie Medical Staff Committee o Participation in the Medical Oncology Consultant on call rota 1:20.,

Plan Timetable

The timetable below is indicative and will be confirmed on commencement in post. It is the requirement of the Trust that all new consultant colleagues must have 0.25 SPAs within their job plan to support Trust appraisal and supervision requirements. This can either be as appraiser or a supervisor for medical staff or Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACP).,

On call Commitments

This role does require participation in the on-call rota. This is a 1:20 week rota and includes input to the acute admissions unit at the weekend.

  • MRCP or equivalent qualification
  • GMC registration with a license to practice Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) specialist register via one of the following: a. Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (the proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) b. Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR).
  • Advanced Trainee Competencies LGI Cancers and Acute oncology experience.
  • Active in local teaching.
  • Evidence of tumour type specific training and experience.
  • Productive engagement with clinical management/audit.
  • Active in national/international teaching education.
  • Is a team player prepared to adapt to changing circumstances
  • Dynamic, decision-making motivator.
  • Confident in ability but knowing own limitations.
  • Hard working, enthusiastic achiever The postholder will contribute to the delivery of high-quality consultant-led care across 7 days. This includes participation in planned weekend and weekday clinical activity to support safe, timely decision-making and continuity of care for patients.
