Job Description & How to Apply Below

We are looking for a Teacher of Mathematics to start Easter 2026 or earlier to join our Mathematics Department.

The Mathematics Department at Co-op Academy Failsworth is forward looking and dynamic. Problem solving and reasoning skills are at the core of our curriculum and pupils are afforded the opportunity to master a range of non-routine tasks using creativity, fluency and confidence.

The Mathematics Department is led by an Executive Head of Mathematics who holds overall responsibility and works closely with the Head of Mathematics.

The Mathematics Department is proud to be at the forefront of research into Mathematics education and has excellent links with Maths Hubs, MEI, and Manchester Metropolitan University.

The Mathematics Department requires teachers to be forward-thinking, reflective and passionate practitioners. Co-op Academy Failsworth is an excellent school for those keen to learn from and contribute to the latest developments in educational research and theory and in return can offer outstanding access to in-house and external CPD to support the growth of learners and teachers.

The team members in the department are expected to teach across the full age and ability range.

At KS4, students are entered for the Edexcel GCSE Mathematics examination and the team will be committed to maximising all students’ progress.

This is a key area of focus to ensure we allow all our pupils to achieve their potential. The continued hard work of staff and drive on quality first teaching mean the academy is expecting to continue to improve its results with the current cohort.

The Mathematics Department looks forward to working with a committed and talented colleague, who will be able to develop strong relationships with colleagues and pupils, and lead the consistent delivery of high-quality teaching and learning to the pupils at Co-op Academy Failsworth.

Ofsted:

"Pupils are happy to come to school. They enjoy making friends and they are supportive of each other".

"Pupils appreciate the support and care that is provided by staff. This helps pupils to feel safe".

"…pupils engage positively with their learning. As a result, behaviour in class and during social times is usually calm and orderly".

"Subject curriculums are well designed. The ‘powerful knowledge’ that the school wants pupils to learn is clearly identified. Subject content is introduced in a logical order so that pupils build their knowledge over time".

"Teachers have good subject knowledge. They select appropriate activities to support pupils to learn the intended curriculum".

"The school has introduced a rigorous and well-structured approach to assessment. This supports staff to deliver the curriculum effectively, pre-empting pupils’ difficulties, identifying misconceptions and gaps in pupils’ knowledge and then using this information to plan for future learning".

The school’s behaviour management system is underpinned by the trust’s values, including ‘be yourself always’ and ‘succeeding together’…pupils live up to these values and are considerate towards each other.

"Learning is rarely disrupted by poor behaviour".

All our values are based upon the values of the Co-op Group, which will inform our behaviours.

We do not expect to be spoon fed – we will try to do things for ourselves in the right way and at the right time.
