Secondary Supply Teacher – Job Description
A Secondary Supply Teacher provides short-term or long-term cover across subject areas when permanent staff are absent. They ensure continuity of learning, maintain classroom standards, and support pupil progress in line with school policies.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver pre-planned lessons across KS3–KS5
- Manage classroom behaviour and maintain a focused learning environment
- Engage pupils and keep learning on track during teacher absences
- Follow safeguarding procedures and school policies
- Provide feedback on pupil behaviour, engagement, and lesson outcomes
- Adapt confidently to different subjects, classes, and school settings
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant teaching qualification
- Strong subject knowledge and classroom management
- Confidence working with secondary-aged pupils
- Flexibility, professionalism, and reliability
