Purpose of Post

To promote positive student attitudes to learning, providing a complementary service to existing teachers and support staff, addressing the needs of the students who need help to overcome barriers to learning and achievement, promoting high standards of attendance, academic progress and behaviour.

Key Responsibilities
  • To promote high individual academic outcomes through instilling clear behaviour, attendance, punctuality and engagement routines in the year group
  • To monitor the attendance and punctuality of the year group and liaise with parents and other external agencies as relevant, carrying a key caseload of students to work with

  • To work closely with the Safeguarding Team, Attendance Team, SEND Team, Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA) lead and the Pastoral VP in developing strategies to encourage full and regular student attendance

  • Work with and support Senior Leaders to ensure year group Academic outcomes are on target through impactful Pastoral work.
Specific to Role
  • To take joint responsibility for the overall standard of uniform, assemblies and line ups in the school
  • To promote and develop the effective use of the Academy’s behaviour and rewards policies and systems.
  • To promote an effective exchange of relevant behaviour for learning support plans between staff using the Academy behaviour procedures.
  • To establish a working relationship with Tutors in order to promote positive behaviour and general wellbeing of students.
  • To act as a point of referral for staff, students, parents/carers and external agencies and ensure that relevant information is distributed to relevant staff in the Academy.
  • To contact, where necessary, families/carers of students in need of extra support and if necessary, make home visits.
  • To lead, attend and participate in regular Year Team meetings as required.
  • To work closely with the Safeguarding Team, Attendance Team, SEND Team, Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA) lead and the Pastoral VP in the development of Pastoral support plans for children.
  • To patrol the Academy during the day as part of a patrol rota, ensuring positive student behaviour and attitudes.
  • To supervise students at social times at allocated times during the week.
  • Participate in annual reviews of performance providing clear evidence of impact.
  • Ensure all appropriate information and communications are disseminated to appropriate staff.
  • To monitor homework and respond promptly to support children and families in the completion of this work
  • Take initial responsibility for Early Help Cases, working with the Designated Safeguarding Lead and making referrals to Early Help.
  • To assist in the identification of students who would benefit from additional academic or pastoral support.
  • To promote and develop the self-esteem and confidence of students regarding learning and academic achievement and where relevant to play a part in the counselling process.
  • To support the re‑integration of students following fixed term exclusion and other prolonged absences
  • To record student statements and take action to support students (e.g., bullying / physical contact etc), and take the appropriate Academy‑based action in line with policies
  • To be part of the rota staffing the Behaviour Reflection room, with a specific focus on working with year group members in that Reflection Room at that time
  • To assist in the preparation of Governor Disciplinary and/or Permanent Exclusion packs for students in the year group as needed
  • To assist Senior Leaders in the organising, updating, and monitoring the roles of the tutor, tutor time PowerPoint & tutor activities
