Lecturer in Digital Education (Teaching and Scholarship) – Manchester Institute of Education (MIE)

Two positions are available for this vacancy.

This full‑time, fixed‑term post for three years begins on 1 September 2026 and is based in the Ellen Wilkinson Building on the University’s Oxford Road campus.

Role Responsibilities
  • Designing and delivering high‑quality, research‑led teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, particularly within the MA DTCE.
  • Leading and coordinating course units and contributing to programme and curriculum development.
  • Teaching using a range of formats, including lectures, seminars, tutorials, workshops and digital learning platforms.
  • Assessing undergraduate and postgraduate work and providing clear, timely and constructive feedback.
  • Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations and providing academic advice and pastoral support to students.
  • Maintaining an active profile in scholarship related to digital education, appropriate to career stage.
  • Contributing to research and scholarship groups and networks within DTCE.
  • Disseminating scholarship through publications, conferences, blogs and other appropriate outlets.
  • Supporting activities that translate scholarship into wider societal benefit and potential impact.
Qualification Requirements
  • Essential Criteria
    • A PhD in a relevant discipline.
    • Experience delivering high‑quality teaching and assessment at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
    • Strong knowledge of research methods relevant to digital education and experience teaching research methods.
    • Experience using digital technologies innovatively for teaching and learning (e.g., VLEs, online discussion tools, video‑conferencing).
    • Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to student support and inclusion.
  • Desirable Criteria
    • Evidence of research or scholarship aligned with DTCE priorities (generative AI, digital sustainability, digital dialogue).
    • Experience contributing to programme or course unit development.
    • Experience supervising postgraduate or doctoral students.
    • Experience disseminating digital education research or scholarship.
