Position: SEND / SEMH Primary Teaching Assistant

SEND / SEMH Primary Teaching Assistant

Are you passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?

Aspire People are working with a range of primary schools and specialist provisions seeking compassionate and resilient Teaching Assistants to support pupils with additional needs.

This rewarding role offers the opportunity to make a genuine difference by helping children overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

The Role
  • Provide 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils with additional needs.
  • Support children with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs, sensory needs and behavioural challenges.
  • Implement personalised learning and behaviour support strategies.
  • Support emotional regulation using positive reinforcement and de‑escalation techniques.
  • Adapt classroom activities to meet individual learning needs.
  • Encourage independence, confidence and positive social interaction.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENDCOs and external professionals.
We Are Looking For
  • Previous experience supporting children with SEND or SEMH, either in schools, care, youth work or similar settings.
  • A calm, patient and nurturing approach.
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils who may have experienced barriers to learning.
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable children.
