Salary: 32,000 - 42,000
Contract: Full-time Term Time
Education First is looking for a passionate and dedicated English Teacher to join a specialist education team, supporting secondary-aged pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, communication difficulties and associated learning needs.
This is an opportunity to make a genuine difference by delivering engaging, personalised English lessons that inspire confidence, develop literacy skills and help pupils achieve positive outcomes. You'll work with in a nurturing, therapeutic environment where relationships, consistency and individual progress are at the heart of everything we do.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and deliver engaging English lessons tailored to pupils' individual needs, abilities and EHCP outcomes.
- Teach the English curriculum, adapting resources and teaching approaches to maximise engagement and achievement.
- Assess, monitor and record pupil progress, using assessment to inform planning and next steps.
- Create a structured, inclusive and supportive classroom environment that promotes learning, emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
- Contribute to EHCP reviews, personalised learning plans and annual review meetings.
- Support pupils to develop communication, literacy, confidence and independence.
- Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, families and external professionals to provide holistic support.
- Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and contribute to the wider life of the school.
Skills & Qualifications
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Degree in English or a related subject.
- Experience teaching English at secondary level.
- Experience adapting teaching to meet the needs of pupils with SEND.
- Experience working in a specialist SEND, SEMH or alternative provision setting.
- Knowledge of Autism, ADHD, trauma-informed practice and relational approaches.
- Experience contributing to EHCPs and multi-agency working.
- Experience preparing pupils for Functional Skills and/or GCSE English qualifications.
