Position: Teaching Assistant Level 3 SEN (1:1  Complex Medical Needs)

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Level 3 Teaching Assistant (SEN) to join our fantastic team at Pear Tree High School

This is a permanent post working 35 hours per week, term time only plus 5 INSET days. The starting salary is £24,998 and the full time equivalent is £29,064 Grade 5.

We're Looking For

We are seeking an experienced and qualified Level 3 Teaching Assistant (SEN) to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with complex medical needs, including significant medical and personal care requirements.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in enabling the pupil to access learning, develop independence and participate fully in school life through high-quality, personalised support. You will be confident in supporting pupils with complex communication, sensory and physical needs and be committed to delivering care with dignity, compassion and respect.

Experience of supporting pupils with complex medical needs is essential. Ideally, you will hold current training, or be willing to undertake training, in areas such as tracheostomy care, feeding, moving and handling, medication administration and personal care.

You will be a calm, resilient and self‑motivated individual with excellent interpersonal skills, able to build positive relationships with pupils, families, colleagues and external professionals. You will work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and other agencies to ensure the best possible outcomes for the pupil.

Main Purpose Of The Job

To complement the professional work of teachers by providing high‑quality 1:1 support for a pupil with complex medical needs, enabling them to access learning safely and effectively within the school environment.

The Role Includes
  • Providing specialist support to meet the pupil's educational, medical, personal care and communication needs.
  • Delivering agreed learning activities, therapy programmes and intervention strategies under the direction of teaching staff and external professionals.
  • Supporting the implementation of Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and medical care plans.
  • Delivering high standards of personal care, ensuring the pupil's dignity, safety and wellbeing are maintained at all times.
  • Supporting complex medical procedures in accordance with individual healthcare plans and school policies following appropriate training.
  • Working closely with teachers, therapists, nurses, parents/carers and external agencies to provide a consistent and coordinated approach to support.
  • Promoting independence, communication, inclusion and participation across all aspects of school life.
  • Monitoring, recording and reporting on pupil progress, wellbeing and any medical or safeguarding concerns.
  • Supporting the creation of a safe, stimulating and inclusive learning environment that enables the pupil to achieve their full potential.
