Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and resilient Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive primary school in North Manchester. This rewarding opportunity involves supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs

The Role

As a Learning Support Assistant
, you will work closely with pupils who require additional emotional and behavioural support throughout the school day. You will play a vital role in helping children regulate their emotions, engage positively in learning, and develop strong social skills.

You will become a trusted adult figure, providing guidance, reassurance, and consistency while helping pupils navigate challenges both inside and outside the classroom.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide tailored support for pupils with SEMH needs
  • Build positive, trusting relationships that encourage engagement and progress
  • Support emotional regulation and social development
  • Use effective de-escalation strategies to manage challenging behaviours
  • Deliver focused 1:1 support and intervention sessions
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and wider school staff
  • Create a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and positive decision-making
We're Looking For Someone Who Is:
  • Calm, patient, and resilient
  • Passionate about supporting children with additional needs
  • Confident managing challenging or dysregulated behaviour
  • Proactive and able to think on their feet
  • A strong communicator and team player
  • Committed to a full-time, long-term position
  • Experienced in SEMH, SEN, youth work, care, coaching, or similar support roles (desirable)
Desirable Experience
  • Previous experience supporting children with SEMH, SEN, or behavioural needs
  • Experience working in education, care, youth work, or support settings
  • Team Teach training (or willingness to undertake training)
  • Understanding of trauma-informed approaches and behaviour support strategies
