Graduate Teaching Assistant

Are you a graduate in South London looking to gain invaluable experience in education before pursuing a career in teaching, educational psychology or another child-focused profession?

Academics is recruiting a Graduate Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and high-achieving secondary school in South London from September. This opportunity is a full-time position for the entire academic year, making it ideal for graduates seeking meaningful classroom experience ahead of teacher training or further study.

As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will become part of a supportive graduate team, working alongside experienced teachers and other Graduate Teaching Assistants to help students achieve their full potential. This collaborative environment provides excellent mentoring, training and professional development throughout the year.

To ensure the role is the right fit for both you and the school, the successful candidate will complete a two-week paid trial before continuing for the remainder of the academic year.

The Role
  • Support teachers in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons across KS3 and KS4.
  • Deliver one-to-one and small group interventions to students requiring additional support.
  • Assist pupils with their academic progress, confidence and engagement.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and fellow graduates as part of a wider support team.
  • Help maintain a positive, safe and productive learning environment.
  • Support students with a range of learning needs where required.
The Ideal Candidate
  • A degree in any subject.
  • A genuine interest in education and supporting young people.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive, enthusiastic and professional attitude.
  • Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable but not essential.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
  • Residence within or ability to travel to South London.
