Teaching Personnel is currently recruiting for a Functional Skills Teacher to join a specialist secondary alternative provision supporting students in Key Stage
4. This setting works with learners who face a range of barriers to education, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), anxiety, trauma-related behaviours, attachment difficulties, emotional dysregulation, poor school attendance, and challenging behaviour.

The provision offers a structured, supportive, and therapeutic learning environment designed to re-engage students with education and prepare them for positive post‑16 destinations. Class sizes are small, allowing staff to build strong relationships with pupils and deliver highly personalised learning programmes.

• Plan and deliver high-quality Functional Skills lessons to KS4 students.
• Differentiate learning to meet a range of academic abilities and additional needs.
• Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes engagement and achievement.
• Support students to develop confidence, resilience, and independence.
• Implement behaviour support strategies and restorative approaches.
• Monitor, assess, and track student progress against individual targets.
• Prepare students for Functional Skills qualifications and future pathways.
• Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, pastoral teams, and external professionals.
• Develop positive relationships with students, encouraging attendance and participation.
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to reviews and reports.

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), QTLS, or equivalent teaching qualification.
• Experience teaching Functional Skills, English, Mathematics, or a related subject at secondary level.
• Understanding of SEMH needs and the challenges faced by students in alternative provisions.
• Strong behaviour management and relationship‑building skills.
• Ability to adapt teaching methods to engage learners with diverse needs.
• A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one through Teaching Personnel.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
