Learning Support Assistant - September 2026

£92.56 - £115 per day (depending on experience) | PAYE only

Full-time | 8.30am-3.45pm | Long-term, ongoing role

Premier Education is recruiting a committed Learning Supporting Assistant for a long-term position at a specialist secondary school in Wythenshawe.

The school is well placed for commuters from across South Manchester, Trafford, Stockport and Cheshire. Wythenshawe benefits from strong Metrolink, bus and road connections, including convenient access from the M56. The location may suit candidates travelling from areas such as Sale, Altrincham, Stretford, Didsbury, Cheadle, Gatley, Heald Green, Wilmslow and Manchester city centre.

This is a full-time, ongoing opportunity offering valuable continuity in a supportive specialist setting. You will become a consistent member of the school team and make a meaningful difference to young people with significant additional needs.

Learning Support Assistant - about the school

The school supports secondary-aged pupils and young people with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Pupils may have a range of needs, including:

Autism (ASC)

Communication and interaction needs

Moderate or severe learning difficulties

Social, emotional and mental health needs

Sensory and physical needs

Complex additional needs

The specialist setting provides calm, structured learning environments, dedicated teaching spaces and opportunities for individual and small-group support.

Staff work closely together to help every pupil develop academically, socially and emotionally while building confidence, communication skills and independence.

Learning Support Assistant - the role

As a Secondary SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside teachers and specialist staff to support pupils throughout the school day.

Your responsibilities may include:

Providing one-to-one and small-group support

Helping pupils access lessons and personalised learning activities

Supporting pupils to work towards their EHCP outcomes

Encouraging communication, independence and positive social interaction

Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour

Helping pupils manage transitions and daily routines

Preparing learning resources and supporting classroom activities

Monitoring pupils' engagement and sharing observations with teaching staff

Following individual support, behaviour and safeguarding plans

Helping to maintain a safe, calm and nurturing learning environment

Depending on pupils' individual needs, the role may include personal care or physical support. Relevant guidance and training will be provided by the school where required.

Learning Support Assistant - requirements

We would like to hear from candidates who:

Have experience supporting children or young people with SEND

Have worked in a school, care, youth work or similar support environment

Are patient, compassionate and resilient

Can build positive and consistent relationships with young people

Are comfortable supporting pupils with complex or challenging needs

Can work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team

Are reliable and available full-time from 8.30am until 3.30pm

Can commit to a long-term, ongoing placement

A relevant Teaching Assistant or childcare qualification would be beneficial but is not essential where applicants have suitable experience.
