Specialised Secondary Subject Tutor
Use Your Subject Expertise to Support Learners Who Need It Most

We're looking for Specialised Secondary Subject Tutors across Dorset to provide personalised 1:1 tuition to children and young people who require alternative educational provision.

Working on behalf of Local Authorities
, you'll support secondary-aged learners across your specialist subject area, helping them overcome barriers to education, build confidence, and achieve positive academic outcomes. Many of the students we work with are unable to access mainstream education full-time and benefit from tailored, engaging support delivered at a pace that suits their individual needs.

We welcome applications from tutors and educators with experience teaching subjects such as English, Maths, Science, Humanities, Languages, Computing, Business Studies, Art, and other secondary curriculum areas.

  • Hours: Flexible
  • Pay Rate: 25- 30 per hour
  • Type: 1:1 Tuition
Requirements
  • Minimum 6 months' experience in an educational setting
    , including teaching, tutoring, learning support, mentoring, or similar roles
  • Strong subject knowledge within your specialist area
  • QTS or PGCE preferred
  • Experience delivering lessons at secondary level
  • Ability to plan and adapt lessons to meet individual learning needs
  • Experience supporting learners with SEND, EHCPs, or additional needs is advantageous
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Patient, flexible, and learner-focused approach
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
  • Driver preferred; alternatively, willingness to travel locally within Dorset
Who You'll Support

You'll work with secondary-aged students who may present with a range of additional needs, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • ADHD
  • Anxiety and school avoidance
  • EHCPs and additional educational needs

Each learner requires a personalised approach, with a focus on engagement, confidence-building, and educational progress.
