Electrical Building Services Engineer
Locations: Manchester, Birmingham
Shape the future of sustainable building design by leading the design and delivery of building services across a diverse portfolio of energy, infrastructure, healthcare, education, commercial and transportation projects. This role offers a unique blend of technical leadership, stakeholder engagement and project management.
Purpose & Scope of the RoleLead the design and delivery of HVAC systems, domestic water services and above‑ground drainage for new‑build and refurbishment projects. Produce specifications, condition survey reports and technical documentation while engaging with clients, architects, planners and other engineering disciplines. Drive low‑carbon design and support the transition to a low‑carbon economy.
Responsibilities- Produce and review detailed electrical designs, including spatial planning, thermal calculations and system coordination.
- Oversee drawing production, maintain design quality and ensure outputs meet client expectations.
- Mentor junior engineers and support continuous improvement of design standards.
- Challenge briefs, propose innovative alternatives and articulate complex engineering concepts to interdisciplinary teams.
- Manage budgets, programme timelines and quality assurance for multiple concurrent projects.
- Track progress, maintain financial control and manage client expectations on larger or complex schemes.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering, or equivalent work experience supported by BTEC qualifications.
- Strong knowledge of CIBSE guidance, Part L, and BREEAM; experience with low‑carbon technologies and sustainable design principles.
- Extensive experience in electrical distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarms, small power, security systems, earthing and controls.
- Proficiency with AMTEC, Dialux/Relux, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and MS Excel;
Revit and IES experience are a plus. - Chartered Engineer status, or working towards chartership with IET or CIBSE, is highly desirable.
Contribute confidently to interdisciplinary design meetings and peer‑to‑peer technical discussions. Apply engineering judgement to solve complex challenges, particularly in refurbishment and remodelling projects, and propose greener, more sustainable alternatives.
