Our client is a leading engineering business delivering major infrastructure solutions across the UK's energy, water, transportation, and defence sectors. The job Senior / Principal Electrical, Instrumentation, Control & Automation (EICA) Engineer - Our client is seeking an experienced Senior/Principal EICA Engineer to join their Engineering Services team on a permanent basis.

- You will bring strong experience across Electrical, Control & Instrumentation within water sector projects and be confident leading small teams, delegating work, and managing multiple projects concurrently.

- The role is ideally suited to someone based within commutable distance of Manchester or London, with an expectation of 1–2 days per week in the office. Site visits will be required approximately monthly or bi-monthly, primarily supporting projects on CMDP (Southern Water South Coast).

- This is a client-facing role involving engineering and design collaboration with customers, providing technical input through ECI and FEED stages and supporting projects through detailed design and construction.

- Due to increased workload across AMP8, our client is currently supporting major water frameworks including United Utilities, Severn Trent, Southern Water, Thames Water, and Northumbrian Water.

The Role As a Senior/Principal EICA Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation disciplines, contributing throughout the project lifecycle from feasibility and concept through to commissioning and handover. You will also play a key role in documentation approvals, team leadership, and coordination with clients, supply chain partners, contractors and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Core responsibilities:

• Lead and manage a small team of engineers and designers from a technical delivery perspective
• Approve Electrical, Control & Instrumentation deliverables
• Attend the Manchester office 2–3 days per week (where geographically feasible)
• Undertake site visits on the South Coast (typically monthly or bi-monthly) Additional responsibilities may include:
• Developing cost-effective solutions to meet Environment Agency regulatory requirements
• Collaborating with subcontractors on intrusive site surveys
• Producing Electrical Load Schedules and defining telemetry requirements
• Supporting best practice and Net Zero sustainability objectives
• Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and procedures (including WIMES)
• Preparing equipment and materials requisitions
• Producing subcontractor scopes of work
• Reviewing technical submissions, quotations, and bid assessments Candidate Profile Essential experience and qualifications:
• Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Electrical, Electronic, Control Engineering etc.) – apprenticeships considered
• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, or actively working towards professional registration
• Strong knowledge of design practices within the UK water sector
• Proven experience delivering water sector projects, including approval of documentation for construction
• Strong understanding of risk, HSE requirements, and compliance
• Knowledge of UK legislation and engineering standards
• Experience in process plant environments, including hazardous areas
• Familiarity with CE / UKCA compliance (ATEX, PED, LVD, Machinery Directive, EMC) Personal attributes:
