Job Description & How to Apply Below
CAD Technician – Civil Engineering
Location:
Manchester
Ideal for candidates 1–3 years post-school (college/day release considered)
We are working with a well-established and growing engineering consultancy in Manchester who are looking to appoint a CAD Technician to join their expanding technical team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career – whether you are already working in a similar role, currently studying Civil Engineering at college, or completing a day-release/HNC qualification and looking to build hands-on industry experience.
The Role
As a CAD Technician, you will support the engineering team in the production of technical drawings and design information across a range of civil engineering projects. Projects typically include infrastructure, highways, drainage, and associated civil works.
You will gain exposure to live projects from concept through to construction and work closely with experienced Engineers and Senior Technicians who will provide guidance and mentorship.
Key Responsibilities
Producing 2D technical drawings using AutoCAD (and potentially Civil 3D)
Assisting in the preparation of detailed design drawings for highways, drainage and infrastructure schemes
Modifying and updating existing drawings
Working from engineers’ mark-ups and design calculations
Ensuring drawings comply with company and industry standards
Supporting the wider engineering team with technical documentation
About You
We are keen to speak with candidates who:
Have 1–3 years’ experience in a CAD or technical drawing role (civil engineering preferred but not essential)
OR are currently studying Civil Engineering (HNC/HND or similar) and looking to work alongside your studies
Have working knowledge of AutoCAD (Civil 3D would be advantageous but not essential)
Are detail-oriented and technically minded
Have strong communication skills and a proactive attitude
Are keen to build a long-term career within civil engineering design
What’s on Offer
Competitive salary (dependent on experience)
Support with further education (HNC/HND/degree pathways)
Structured training and career development
Exposure to varied and technically interesting projects
Friendly and supportive Manchester-based team environment
This role would suit someone ambitious and eager to develop within a consultancy environment, with clear progression routes into Senior Technician or Design Engineer positions over time.
If you’re looking to combine study with practical experience or take the next step in your early civil engineering career, we’d love to hear from you
