About the Role
Advisor, Radiological Protection – Manchester, Derby, or Warrington with hybrid working. Support the radiological protection aspects of the Rolls‑Royce SMR power station and work across engineering and safety teams to ensure radiation hazards are understood, controlled and demonstrated to be ALARP within the integrated E3S Case.
What You’ll Be Doing- Support the evaluation of radiological protection requirements across the SMR design, ensuring compliance with IRR
17 and wider nuclear safety guidance. - Provide expert advice to engineering teams to justify and demonstrate ALARP for radiation hazards.
- Contribute to the development and execution of radiological protection programmes for the E3S Case.
- Engage with regulators and licensing authorities during SMR licensing activities.
- Identify operating experience and best practice from the nuclear industry and integrate it into design.
- Support the examination of innovative techniques that strengthen radiological safety.
- High‑quality delivery of radiological protection documentation that meets regulatory and international expectations.
- Effective, confident communication with internal teams, external partners and regulators.
- Strong understanding of IRR
17, safety case development, ACOP and related nuclear safety expectations. - Ability to interpret how radiological protection considerations apply to power plant operations.
- Constructive engagement with stakeholders across engineering, safety and project delivery teams.
- Degree at NQF Level 6 in a scientific or engineering discipline or equivalent relevant experience.
- Membership of a relevant professional institute.
- Good understanding of IRR
17, the safety case process and nuclear safety good practice. - Strong communication, stakeholder engagement and documentation skills.
- Ability to plan and deliver work to deadline with a high standard of accuracy.
- Salary: £40,000 – £52,500
- Annual benefit allowance: £2,200
- Bonus opportunity: 12.5 %
