Job Description & How to Apply Below

Overview

At Nexperia Manchester, we are strengthening our MOSFET R&D Quality Labs to support the development and manufacture of advanced Power MOSFET technologies. As a Failure Analysis Engineer, you will play a critical role at the interface of manufacturing, product engineering, customer quality and R&D, ensuring robust products, clear technical communication and science‑based decision making. Your curiosity, analytical mindset and commitment to high‑quality engineering will help shape the reliability and performance of high‑volume semiconductor products used worldwide.

What

you’ll do

As a Failure Analysis Engineer, you will perform detailed investigations on MOSFET devices at wafer and package level, applying a wide range of analytical techniques to identify failure mechanisms and support root‑cause understanding. You will act as a technical communication bridge across Quality, Manufacturing, R&D, Reliability, Applications and Customer Engineering teams, ensuring findings are clearly explained to both technical and non‑technical audiences.

You will translate complex analytical results into structured, scientifically defensible reports, contribute to 8D and RCA activities, and support continuous improvement across design, process and application guidance. You will also help develop lab capability, mentor junior colleagues and contribute to a collaborative, inclusive team culture.

Key Responsibilities
  • Communicate analytical techniques, failure mechanisms and conclusions clearly and confidently, supporting customer quality discussions, technical reviews, 8D activities and management updates across Quality, Manufacturing, R&D, Reliability, Applications and Customer Engineering teams.
  • Perform comprehensive analysis on MOSFET devices using electrical characterisation, optical microscopy, X‑ray, LIT, SAM, SEM, EDX and FIB cross‑sectioning; identify failure mechanisms such as EOS/ESD, process or material defects and application‑driven stress; correlate results with process data, design information and reliability lifetests.
  • Translate complex analytical findings into clear, structured and scientifically defensible reports, supported by high‑quality visuals including images, graphs and schematics, and present results in cross‑functional forums with a respectful, collaborative communication style.
  • Identify systemic quality risks and contribute to preventive actions across design, process and application guidance; support laboratory scope management, equipment upkeep and capability development; mentor junior team members and share best‑practice knowledge to foster an inclusive team culture.
What you’ll need
  • Essential requirements:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Microelectronics or related field.
  • Curiosity, structured problem‑solving mindset and strong attention to detail.
  • Confidence working in cross‑functional, multicultural environments.
  • Experience or strong academic exposure to semiconductor devices (Power MOSFETs preferred), failure analysis, reliability or product engineering.
  • Device physics, semiconductor manufacturing processes and reliability mechanisms.
  • Strong scientific writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and confidently.
Beneficial skills
  • Hands‑on FA experience with power semiconductor devices.
  • Familiarity with reliability stress standards and application‑driven failure modes.
