Overview
We are looking for an energetic and experienced Principal Dams & Reservoir Engineer to join our Design & Advanced Technology practice. The role is based in Glasgow or Manchester and offers hybrid working.
Responsibilities- Coordinate or manage a team of engineers and scientists for technical design work on complex multi‑disciplinary reservoir and hydraulic structures projects following relevant national and project‑specific design codes and standards.
- Produce and review technical deliverables such as design reports, drawings, calculations and scopes of work with defined scope.
- Provide technical input into project design deliverables for reservoir and hydraulic structures and work with project management to manage time and budgets to key milestones.
- Collaborate with client, operational, project or service activities within your immediate team and with other Atkins teams.
- Provide mentorship to less experienced colleagues and grow the Dams, Reservoirs and Hydraulic Structures Engineering capabilities within the local team.
- Work independently with minimal technical guidance and exercise personal judgement to solve difficult problems.
- Provide technical support for bid proposals.
- Work with a multi‑disciplinary team in the UK and overseas to deliver integrated design solutions, adhering to quality assurance standards and reviewing work of others.
- Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
- Chartered or Incorporated Civil Engineer and Panel Engineer or working towards becoming a Panel Engineer.
- Proven experience coordinating or managing an engineering design delivery team within a multi‑disciplinary environment.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience in design of earth/concrete dams, flood walls, embankments, weirs, hydraulic structures, culverts, scour protection, access, construction logistics and design codes.
- Experience in the Water market is essential.
- Strong communication skills to convey technical concepts clearly and effectively with diverse teams.
