We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Civil Engineer to join our Consulting Highways team in Manchester
.
The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week, but we offer flexible working practices including hybrid, part-time, and other flexible patterns.

What You Will Be Doing- Work in a team to produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working unsupervised and supervising junior staff.
- Prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings, and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the overarching criteria of quality, cost and programme.
- Liaise with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attend progress meetings, and respond to queries.
- Manage a small, locally based single‑discipline technical team and take responsibility for delivery of workload.
- Contribute to the preparation of bids and the general work‑winning function.
- Work on site, either on a visiting basis or in a full‑time but temporary role, including out of hours working.
- A Degree or Masters qualification in a relevant discipline.
- Relevant experience in highway engineering, particularly local roads and S278 layouts.
- The ability to work in a commercial and customer‑focused way that achieves programme, meets performance targets and generates income.
- Confidence to work under minimum supervision and competence to check the work of others and supervise less experienced staff.
- A good understanding of Manual for Streets, DMRB, and other national standards, best practice guidance, and local standards.
- A good understanding of the CDM regulations and their relevance to highway design.
- The ability to support the preparation of briefs for fee quotes for delivery of services when required.
- Capacity to deliver on time, within budget and to the required quality.
- Keeping up to date with industry best practice and applying it within the team.
