Réalis’ Building Design Practice is looking for an experienced, motivated Senior / Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in the new central Manchester office. The role involves working as part of a national practice delivering engineering design solutions across a multi‑sector portfolio, including Commercial, Defence, Energy, Education and Healthcare.
- Undertake the design and specification of all Mechanical Building Services systems from concept through to detailed design – including heating, cooling, ventilation and public health systems.
- Produce detailed calculations using industry standard software tools such as Hevacomp, MEPworx and IES.
- Prepare technical specifications, design reports and presentations.
- Collaborate with the BIM team to prepare Revit models and drawings.
- Represent Atkins
Réalis at client and professional meetings. - Conduct condition surveys, inspections and monitor installation and commissioning.
- Manage your own workload to deliver projects to agreed deadlines and budgets.
- Assist with the technical development of junior team members.
- Relevant experience in Building Services Engineering with a passion for design excellence.
- Degree qualified or equivalent in Building Services Engineering / Mechanical Engineering or related subjects.
- Working towards, or a Chartered Member of, CIBSE, IMechE or equivalent body.
- Experience with calculation software such as IES, Hevacomp, Stabi
CAD, Revit and Microsoft Office. - Detailed knowledge of UK technical standards and codes of practice.
- Familiarity with energy reduction methods and decarbonising approaches.
- Understanding of energy and carbon data capture, analytics and performance verification.
- Competent in designing for measurement and verification, including commissioning and post‑installation performance evaluation.

Additional InformationSecurity clearance may be required. Offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. The vetting process is delivered by United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) and may require proof of UK residency of five years or longer.
