An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Highway Engineer to join a busy client in the Manchester area.

The main duties of the experienced Principal Highway Engineer are:
  • Lead the delivery of major capital highways and infrastructure programmes from concept through to completion.
  • Manage and coordinate high-profile transport and regeneration schemes funded through major government investment programmes.
  • Oversee the planning, programming, design coordination, and implementation of highway improvement projects.
  • Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary project teams, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to required standards.
  • Coordinate the production of technical designs, cost estimates, drawings, and project documentation to support scheme delivery and funding requirements.
  • Manage external consultants, contractors, and specialist partners to ensure successful project outcomes and value for money.
  • Act as the key liaison between internal departments, regional transport bodies, stakeholders, and external agencies.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement, consultation exercises, and public-facing activities relating to major infrastructure schemes.
  • Ensure all projects comply with governance procedures, statutory requirements, funding conditions, and audit processes.
  • Monitor programme risks, performance, and reporting requirements across multiple concurrent schemes.
  • Support the development of future capital programme pipelines, funding bids, and business cases.
  • Represent the service at regional meetings, committees, public inquiries, and strategic transport forums.
  • Provide professional advice and technical guidance on highways, infrastructure delivery, and capital investment programmes.
  • Contribute to wider regeneration and sustainable transport objectives through effective infrastructure planning and delivery.
