As part of our Rail Infrastructure business, you’ll join a team that is transforming how people and goods move, making rail travel safer, smarter, greener, and more efficient.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Commercial Manager to join our Manchester team, providing commercial support across major infrastructure projects in the North West. Working closely with Project Managers, stakeholders and suppliers, you will help ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget while managing a diverse range of work packages. We also welcome applications from experienced Senior Quantity Surveyors looking to take the next step into a Commercial Manager role.

This role promotes hybrid working, with a minimum requirement of 3 days in the office per week.

You’ll make a difference by …
  • Being responsible for project and work package change control and management
  • Presenting periodic project commercial performance
  • Providing key commercial interface for responsible work package manager
  • Providing contractual & commercial support to Project Managers and Engineering
  • Responsible for work package cost management, including forecasting, budget management and control
  • Monitor and actively manage and mitigate work package risks
  • Provides Input to internal and external commercial reports as required by Commercial Delivery Strategy
  • Ensure processes and document control complies with the appropriate Company standards
  • Establish and maintain interfaces with key stakeholders, including clients, subcontractors, project management, engineering, and finance teams
  • Responsible for maintaining auditable records for responsible work packages in accordance with contractual requirements

Your role profile may vary from time to time in accordance with business needs. Your annual objective setting with your line manager will outline any additional responsibilities required to meet business or individual development needs for the forthcoming financial year.

What you’ll need to succeed...
  • Experience gained within rail, engineering, defence, construction, IT or a similar project-based industry.
  • Experience working on complex, multidisciplinary projects.
  • Working towards or holding a professional membership such as RICS.
  • Experience managing multiple stakeholders across project delivery teams.
Must Haves:
  • Previous Quantity Surveyor/Senior Quantity Surveyor experience within a contractor-side project environment, with a proven track record of successful commercial delivery.
  • Degree qualified (or equivalent higher education) in a relevant discipline and/or working towards or holding a professional qualification such as RICS, IACCM, or similar.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen, including experience managing direct labour and subcontract costs, forecasting costs, measuring completed work, and estimating/managing change and variations.
  • Experience developing and implementing commercial strategies, alongside identifying and proactively managing commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, with the ability to report commercial performance to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, build collaborative relationships, manage expectations, prioritise workloads effectively, and thrive in high-performing environments while promoting Siemens' high standards and reputation.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to customer sites across the region.
