Industrial Connected Talent is supporting an established engineering and manufacturing business in the search for a Design Engineer.
This role is focused on developing accurate, manufacturable component and tooling designs using Solid Works. You will work with customers, suppliers and internal teams to optim designs for quality, cost and production, while supporting new product introduction and continuous improvement activity.
Responsibilities for Design EngineerAs Design Engineer, you will produce CAD models, technical drawings and engineering documentation for components and tooling. You will work closely with sales, production and quality teams to improve manufacturability, resolve technical issues and deliver practical engineering solutions.
- Produce and modify 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings using Solid Works
- Review customer designs and recommend improvements for manufacturability
- Support tooling design, including patterns, gauges and fixtures
- Use simulation software to assess casting performance and process risks
- Maintain specifications, revision control and engineering records within company systems
- Support new product introduction, technical problem-solving and continuous improvement
- Work with quality teams to review inspection methods and measurement data
- Prepare technical reports, documentation and presentations
The ideal candidate will have at least two years’ experience producing CAD models and technical drawings within a manufacturing environment. You should have a strong understanding of engineering principles, GD&T and manufacturing processes such as casting, forging or machining.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Manufacturing Engineering or similar
- Minimum two years’ CAD modelling and drawing experience using Solid Works
- Ability to produce drawings in line with BS 8888 standards
- Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerances and manufacturing methods
- Experience working with customers and internal teams to solve technical problems
- Strong attention to detail, organisation and communication skills
- Competent user of Microsoft Office and cloud-based systems
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Knowledge of investment casting, die casting or metallurgical processes
- Experience with casting simulation or process analysis software
- Understanding of machining and finishing processes
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and drawing revision control
- Experience interpreting CMM or dimensional inspection reports
- Awareness of aerospace, defence or regulated manufacturing requirements
